Project overview

The Okavango Delta to Vic Falls Volunteer Adventure will take you through some of the best that southern Africa has to offer in terms of wildlife, culture and adventure. It takes you through Botswana where you tour the world famous Okavango delta then get involved in some really needy community projects in Maun before traveling through the game rich Chobe National Park ending up at the spectacular Victoria falls for an adventure finale. Not only will you have the opportunity to get up close to some of Africa’s incredible wildlife in a true wilderness and sample some of the adventure the area has to offer, but you will also have the opportunity to help some of Botswana’s vulnerable children in a country with one of the world’s highest HIV infection rates.









The highlights of this of this incredibly diverse tour of southern Africa include:

Community work: You will have the opportunity to get involved in one or more of the following activities on the 4 week option - homework clubs, sports days, craft days, work with youth groups, building projects and more…only on the 6 week option will volunteers will get involved with Teaching.

Volunteer role

There are 3 distinct parts to this travel experience each with its own interesting flavor. After your arrival and orientation in Maun you will be joining a camping safari into Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Okavango delta. Here your days will be spent on game drives searching for the incredibly diverse wild life that this world renowned ecosystem has to offer while at night you will be camped out under the African stars, sitting around a crackling campfire listening to tales of the African bush. You may have the option to do an optional extra makoro canoe trip as well. While in Moremi your guide will teach you about the animals and plants of the African savanna and how important it is to protect this beautiful but fragile eco-system.



On return to Maun you will your role will switch to volunteer as you get involved in projects that aim to uplift the lives of vulnerable children. There are large numbers of young children in Botswana who are vulnerable and others whose parents both need to work. These children are the future decision makers of the country and providing a good foundation for their education is key to the future of this important African country. There are a large number of day-care centers with various needs many of whom are seeking volunteer assistance. Your role will be to play your part in assisting these care centers to provide the foundation for the education of these children. You’ll work in direct contact with these children on a daily basis taking care of their basic needs and giving them much needed love, care and guidance.

The final week of your experience is spent on a 7 day tour to Victoria falls following in the footsteps of some of Africa’s great adventurers. After two weeks of hard work in Maun it’ll be time to relax on this safari in search of Africa’s big game. You will end up at Livingstone in Zambia where you can explore the spectacular Victoria falls, go white water rafting on the great Zambezi river or bungi jump into the canyon below the falls. At the end of this adventure if you are booked on the 6 week program, you will be transported back to Maun for two more rewarding weeks of volunteer work.
