If you are an enthusiastic person wanting to give your time as a volunteer whilst experiencing life in an exciting, cosmopolitan and English speaking city, then Volunteer South Africa could be ideal for you.
BUNAC's Volunteer South Africa programme offers you the chance to spend between 5 and 17 weeks working as a volunteer on a community based project in and around beautiful Cape Town. This is your opportunity to experience life within this dynamic city whilst helping to improve life for people living within local townships.
The type of project you are placed in depends on the skills you have to offer at the time of your application. Typical placements include helping in schools and churches, working with disadvantaged youths, helping to develop tourism in rural villages and helping within animal sanctuaries.
BUNAC arranges your placement and group travel to Cape Town where you will take part in a 1 week arrival orientation which will enable you to get to know your group, and learn about the practicalities of life in South Africa. Once you have completed your orientation you will start work on placement. Accommodation is provided, typically in home stays. After completion of your volunteer South Africa programme you will have plenty of time to travel and explore in more depth what this amazing country has to offer.
Monthly departures from May to November
Placements last between 4 and 24 weeks and programme costs start from £795, which include full pre-departure advice and support, a seven day arrival orientation (including tours and accommodation), accommodation and placement costs for the duration of the programme (including meals) and 24/7 support from BUNAC's local partner organisation for the duration of your stay.
To apply to Volunteer South Africa, you must be a British or Irish passport holder, resident in the UK or Ireland, aged at least 18, adventurous, flexible, good communicator, confident and outgoing. Wildlife programme applicants must have an environmental background (work or study).
