Info

Courage Camps are seeking staff to work at camps where children and adults with physical disabilities, sensory and language impairments, and other disabilities or illnesses discover abilities they never knew they had or they thought they had lost

Make a difference to someone this summer, work at Camp Courage or Courage North in 2008. Employment Dates: Staff training for Camp Courage begins in early June, and the first campers arrive the following week. The program ends in late August. Staff Qualifications: Although specialized experience or academic training is not required, counseling staff must be at least 18 years of age. Students who have completed their junior year of High School may qualify for a food service or counselor assistant position. Most program area directors require a degree or experience in an appropriate field. Duties: It is nearly impossible to provide a comprehensive picture of the work duties of a Camp Courage staff member in a summary page such as this. However, the phrase "long hours and hard work" probably best characterizes what is involved. In the unit for campers with physical disabilities, personal care of campers such as dressing, feeding and toileting is one major area of responsibility. Recreation planning is another. Work is the name of the game. Speech Camp staff are responsible for reinforcing camper language goals, leading fun and educational camp activities, and behaviour management. Restrictions: Camp Courage is a residential facility and staff members live on the camp property. Days off are arranged on the basis of one day per week and are taken weekly or every two weeks, according to unit placement. Staff members are required to stay on camp property at all times with the exception of their days off or nights out.
