Location : Nature reserve, 225km outside Windhoek
Head to the world's largest big cat conservation project and get up close to cheetahs! You’ll help with conservation work and research, as well as exploring the amazing 50,000-acre reserve and spotting other wildlife!
You will work at the project for 6 days a week with Saturdays off to wander along local trails or relax. Work varies according to what is needed at the project when you arrive, some of the activities you may get involved with include:
• Cheetah welfare programme - Enter the rehabilitation enclosures and get close to the cheetahs! You’ll have the chance to learn about the cheetahs and the work of the project.
• Leopard tracking and monitoring – From the safety of a vehicle you’ll learn to track these amazing creatures using technology such as antennae and telemetry equipment, and how to spot unusual behaviours, signs of injury and other problems that need to be reported.
• Cheetah or Hyena tracking and monitoring on foot – Your guide will show you how to locate cheetahs or hyenas in the area with the help telemetry equipment on hour-long bush walks where you’ll be checking that the cheetahs are healthy.
• Rescue and release of leopards and cheetahs – While you are at the project one of the cats may need to be rescued or released, if this happens you will have the amazing opportunity to accompany the team.
• Behind the scenes feeding run – Find out what a ‘feeding run’ is all about as you help the in-country to feed the cats, making your way around over 100 of the big cats such as leopards, lions, and cheetahs.
• Bushman walk – Gain a unique insight into the daily lives, culture and traditions of the disappearing bushman tribes. Experience basic living and master a range of skills from making rope from plants to lighting a fire with sticks.
• Sleeping out under the stars! – If the weather allows you’ll spend a unique and very beautiful night out under the stars in one of the dry riverbeds, every two weeks!

From £899 for 2 weeks. Includes: accommodation, some food, transfers, support and back up in-country and 24/7 emergency contact numbers. There are no specific qualifications or requirements needed to take part on this trip. We do however require that all travellers have a sense responsibility for other travellers, project staff and local community and most importantly... a sense of fun and adventure!
