Get a closer look at Australia’s wildlife assisting with a worthwhile conservation project. Play a significant role in the preservation of indigenous species from kangaroos to koalas on the stunning Kangaroo Island!

This project offers a chance to experience eco tourism is at its best in Australasia. After some time chilling out in Kingscote it’s time to head to the wildlife paradise that is Kangaroo Island. You will help out at the project for 5 days a week with variable working hours depending on the weather and temperature.

Your duties will vary according to the needs of the project at the time and may include a whole host of tasks such as; feeding and monitoring kangaroos and koalas, watering the Tree Factory, assisting with re-vegetation of the sanctuary and other ground maintenance and interacting with the many international and local visitors to the sanctuary and showing them around. There is also the additional opportunity to help marshal the nocturnal tours that run each evening, and attend food drops for the local wild kangaroos!

Start Dates

Real Gap Experience offer gap years, career breaks and adventure travel from 1 week to 2 years with weekly/monthly departures for most trips that aren’t dependant on seasons or weather to operate. Set departure dates means you’re always together with other young like-minded travellers and making new friends is guaranteed.

Costs / Benefits

Prices range depending on activity and duration. Volunteering starts from £389 for 2 weeks, Adventure Travel starts from £799 for 2 weeks and our Paid Work options start from £299 for up to 12 months. Requirements

There are no specific qualifications or requirements needed to take part on this trip. We do however require that all travellers have a sense responsibility for other travellers, project staff and local community and most importantly... a sense of fun and adventure!
