Get involved with hands-on conservation of the Australian wilderness! Working with outback experts, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the great outdoors and give you some handy hints for your time off
Whether you love the environment or just want to get out in the fresh air and sunshine, the Conservation Volunteer Australia (CVA) package is a great opportunity to do something different and worthwhile.
You will generally be getting stuck in for 5 days a week between 8am - 4pm, with weekends free to explore, though this may change for some projects. Here are a few of the activities you could be getting up to:
• Environmental monitoring
• Tree planting
• Construction and maintenance of walking tracks
• Erosion and salinity control
• Habitat restoration
• Endangered-species protection
• Seed collection
• Planting of native species
To mix things up a bit and help make sure you experience as much of Australia as possible, you will normally travel to a different project location each week or so. The needs of project vary according to seasonal conditions and conservation priorities so you’ll get placed wherever the most help is needed at the time! Your main role will be to do what’s best for the overall aim; maintaining Australia’s beautiful natural scenery!
Saturday in the bush
Once a month walks through the bush will run, giving you the chance to learn more about the Aussie bush, conservation and generally enjoy the views! These walks are weather dependent and are subject to change in case of extreme weather or a total fire ban.
2 - 8 weeks
Real Gap Experience offer gap years, career breaks and adventure travel from 2 weeks to 2 years with weekly/monthly departures for most trips that aren’t dependant on seasons or weather to operate. Set departure dates means you’re always together with other young like-minded travellers and making new friends is guaranteed.
For all Volunteer, Adventure Travel, Sports and Learning New Skills trips, no salary is paid and participants will need to pay a fee that covers food, accommodation, transfers and 24/7 back-up and support. For our Paid Work Abroad options a salary is paid and varies depending on the trip and location.
There are no specific qualifications or requirements needed to take part on this trip. We do however require that all travellers have a sense responsibility for other travellers, project staff and local community and most importantly... a sense of fun and adventure!
