The Kenya Adventure program aims to give participants a real feel for this outstanding country, its people and its culture.
Our carefully planned program enables participants to use their services on a voluntary basis in some of Kenya's most underprivileged areas. Your assistance with these projects can be life changing for all involved as well as yourself. Spending your time and energy on this project will prove to be priceless as the impact you cause could change the locals' world forever.
The second phase of the program involves you choosing which mini adventure you would like to participate. We give you the opportunity to explore the famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve where you will be able to track the game in this semi-arid wilderness. Watch out for the BIG 5, they are all there!
We also offer an alternative for those outdoor adventure enthusiasts. Why not attempt the second highest mountain on the African continent? We offer a 5 day trek to the peaks of Mt Kenya. The summit offers astounding views of Mt Kenya and Lake Victoria stretching as far as the Indian Ocean!
The Kenya Adventure Itinerary
Day 0 - Arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Greeted by a Sub Saharan Representative & transferred to host accommodation.
Day 1 - Orientation and induction to the country and the city you will be working/living in. You will be shown all the local amenities & services and briefed on topics such as safety and security. You will have a tour of the city and be able to spend some time at the most popular local attractions.
Day 2 - Volunteers will report to their project for the first day at work and will be introduced to staff and the projects team members.
Day 3 - 6 - Volunteers will be working at their projects, teaching, and working with the orphaned children or teaching sports to some very willing students. Volunteers are encouraged to explore the surrounding area outside of project hours and your representative will be happy to take you out at night for a few drinks if you so wish.
Day 7 - 8- When you are not working on your project you will have the opportunity to travel to other areas of the country. Near to Nairobi lies the beautiful lakes of Naivasha and Lake Elementaita. A little further on you will find Mt Longonot and Lake Nakuru which are well known sanctuaries for millions of flamingos. Your project coordinators can give you more information on these and other places of interest in Kenya.
Day 9 - 10 - Work continues at your placement; remember these people are in desperate need of your help and support so give 110% to make the most out of your visit to Kenya.
Day 11 - 13 - Your adventure continues as you travel from Nairobi to the Maasai Mara game reserve. The 'Mara' as it’s locally known, is home to thousands of wild animals including; zebra, buffalo, impala, hippo, giraffes, warthog & of course 'The Big 5'. The 'Mara' is also the seasonal home to thousands of migrating wildebeest who make the journey for half of the year from the Serengeti in neighbouring Tanzania.
Day 11 - Nairobi -Maasai Mara
You will leave Nairobi at 9:00am for the journey south to the Mara. You will travel down the East African Rift to the valley floor where eventually you will reach Narok where you will stop for some lunch. You will then head into the Maasai Mara Game Reserve with an exciting game drive 'en route'. Finally once the sun has gone down and night approaches you will have dinner and spend the night under the stars at the camp.
Day 12 - Maasai Mara
You will rise early and spend the day tracking and observing the wild animals of Africa. The Mara is especially well known for its great herds of plain game including some of the largest lion prides and elephant herds in Africa. Virtually every type of wildlife that exists in Kenya is to be found in the Maasai Mara. Lastly you will head to the Mara River where the famous wildebeest migration takes place and is also the border to neighbouring Tanzania. Lunch and dinner are provided by the tour guides on safari.
Day 13 - Maasai Mara
After an early morning breakfast you will go back to Nairobi with a game drive on the way. This will be your last chance to see the animals of the Maasai Mara so make sure you still have batteries in your camera! You may even get a chance to interact with the local settlers in the area, the Maasai tribe. After lunch en route you will reach the city of Nairobi to end your 3 day adventure.
Day 14 - Departure & Farewell
You will spend your final night in Kenya back with your host and will be taken to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to catch your plane home.
