Teach children and share skills with local teachers in beautiful coastal Ghana.

This is a phenomenal placement in so many ways. It is an excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to learn about the intersections between education and community development. Those with a background in education, psychology or social work will be challenged to adapt their skills to a cross-cultural environment. No matter what your background or experience, in even just a short amount of time, you will see how much your involvement helps local children.

You will teach at a school that is run in conjunction with an orphanage caring for orphaned and abandoned children. The school is operated by a Christian organization, yet all volunteers are welcome regardless of their faith.

Your Role
Volunteers are needed to assist teachers in various junior high level subjects including English, math, science, physical activity, and art. Volunteers will receive orientation and guidance from the school principal. Volunteers can compliment materials with their own background and knowledge.

Examples of Activities:
Learn about the social and economic factors affecting education in Ghana
Teach English, math, science, physical activity, and/or art
Assist children with homework
Run extra-curricular activities and sports for children
Language Requirement: None

Typical Volunteer Hours: Volunteers typically teach during the school day, which ends in the early afternoon. If you would like to volunteer for less hours, this is ok. In sum, your schedule can be flexible, just ensure that you arrange this with your supervisor in Ghana so that it is clear when you are available for teaching.

Duration: 2 weeks +

When: Classes are in session from the beginning of September until mid-December, from the beginning of January until the end of April, and from mid-May to the beginning of August. Dates vary slightly from year to year.

Asset Skills: Confident in public speaking and addressing groups of fifteen or more people. Previous teaching experience is an asset
