Volunteer gap year projects are about people from diverse backgrounds coming together to live, work and socialise as a group, contributing to a unique intercultural gap year experience. Gap year volunteer projects offer far more than just work experience. They encourage personal development, co-operation, tolerance and open-mindedness. Volunteers gain an insight into local culture through working within the community and through the social activities that form an integral part of each project.
International gap year volunteer projects offered by Concordia can be divided in two main categories: Short term and Medium term.
Short term international gap year volunteer projects
These gap year projects bring together individuals from around the world to participate in two to four week gap year projects in Western, Eastern and Central Europe, North America, North Africa, Japan and South Korea or Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Gap year volunteers work as part of an international team to support community-based initiatives that would not be possible without their help.
Medium Term gap year volunteer projects (MTV)
These gap year projects usually last between one and six months (occasionally projects are available for up to 12 months). They aim to support the development of local communities and to provide a non-formal intercultural learning experience for young people.
For gap year volunteers it is an opportunity to get to know a country and community in more depth and to make a more sustained commitment to a particular project. MTV projects can be done as part of a team of international volunteers or sometimes individually alongside local volunteers.
