Canada Gap Year Work and Travel

Take a gap year in Canada. Living and working in Canada is one of the most memorable experiences you can imagine – which is why so many people can’t wait to hop on the plane and do it while they can! Once you’ve landed, gone through customs and you’re out of the airport, the excitement really kicks in - and from here on in, BUNAC’s Canadian partners are ready and waiting to offer help and support every step of the way.

We all know that there’s no place like home, and once you’ve got a gap year job, you’ve identified your favourite spot for a drink and you’ve started getting ‘good mornings’ from the locals, you’ll really start to feel as through you’ve made a home from home. However, getting to the stage does require a bit of legwork – the kind that can be pretty tedious wherever you’re doing it – as the process of job-hunting, setting up bank accounts and finding somewhere to live is a necessary evil of starting a gap year working holiday abroad. But for BUNAC members, HELP IS AT HAND!

Participants on BUNAC’s Gap Year Work Canada Program have full access to resources offered by SWAP, BUNAC's partner in Canada, which exists to make settling into Canada as easy as possible. And once all the ‘I’s have been dotted and the ‘T’s have been crossed, you can get on with enjoying the rest of your Canadian adventure!

What can SWAP do for you?

SWAP's offices in Toronto and Vancouver offer essential information and assist BUNAC members with:

- Finding work anywhere in Canada
- Renting flats
- Banking
- National ID card applications
- Income tax
- Employment laws
- Phones

BUNAC members can use SWAP’s resources as much and as often as they like for the whole time they’re in Canada, so there’s always someone to turn to for help and support.

But it’s not all filling in forms and meticulously ploughing through documents – there’s plenty of fun stuff too! SWAP organises optional trips and nights out that BUNAC members can get involved in as much or as little as they like, giving them the chance to meet other people in the same boat who are starting their own Canadian gap year adventure!
