USA Gap Year Summer Jobs & Travel Programs

Gap Year Work in the USA! Workin’ USA: A taste of the States you could work in this summer! With hundreds of jobs advertised over 13 states, BUNAC’s Job Directory makes the task of job-hunting a lot easier for Work America participants; and as it’s regularly updated you’ll never be short of jobs to apply for. Maryland, Connecticut and Massachusetts are just three of the states that you could find work in this summer - but all work and no play never did anyone any good, so here are a few ideas for what you could get up to on your days off:

Maryland

The Maryland Zoo

A trip to The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore will bring you face-to-face with elephants, leopards, lions, cheetahs, polar bears, snowy owls, warthogs, vultures and giraffes. If you want to get up close and personal, you can hand feed some of the animals. Watch your fingers!

The Ocean City Boardwalk

The Ocean City Boardwalk is a three mile stretch along the beach that offers plenty to keep you entertained. There are a number of amusement arcades (where you can take a ride on an antique carousel, a Ferris wheel or a rollercoaster) and plenty of places to grab some great barbeque chicken or seafood.

St. Clement’s Island

This 40-acre island offers up spectacular scenery, and is the perfect place for you to kick back, relax and enjoy some of America’s finest natural beauty.

Connecticut

Just a short trip from New York, Connecticut offers up some of America’s rural highlights:

- Take a dip in one of the State’s beautiful lakes.

- Buy a drink at a cosy, traditional inn or take a trip to one of the many vineyards for free wine tasting!

- Explore the coastline. The New Haven shoreline is decorated with small towns and farms, while Hammonasset Beach State Park offers idyllic beaches that are perfect for a dip during the summer.

However, with numerous fine restaurants, aquariums and even a beer festival, there’s plenty to keep you entertained in Connecticut’s lively cities too!

Massachusetts

Boston

One of the USA’s most picturesque cities offers up a number of attractions to keep visitors happy. Find out why Boston is one of BUNAC’s favourite American cities.

Cape Cod

The rolling dunes of Cape Cod have made it world famous, and it offers up plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities to satisfy thrill-seekers. But for a taste of paradise, head out to its surrounding islands. Beautiful beaches and laid-back environments make them perfect for a great escape! The islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket offer quaint shops, cobbled streets, lighthouses and beautiful scenery - so are ideal for those lazy weekends.

Whether it’s kayaking or whale-watching that takes your fancy, or whether you’re a beaches or mountains kind of person, the range of attractions offered by Massachusetts make it the perfect place for a working holiday!
