Travel to Asia and volunteer on a gap year in Sri Lanka! Break-dance show group ABCrew helped Projects Abroad to hold an ‘outreach session with a twist’ with the volunteers and children in Sri Lanka. The group from Switzerland taught everyone how to throw some amazing shapes in their usual enthusiastic manner.
Around 70 children from the Wadduwa and Panadura area attended, alongside 50 volunteers and 12 staff members. Elise Beacon, Sri Lanka Assistant Manager, said ‘some of the boys could do some really amazing tricks already and were breaking it down with real gusto, doing the worm, holds and spins. Even the reluctant dancers were converted, learning the choreography and laughing at their efforts.’
Projects-Abroad outreach sessions usually focus on an aspect of medical care or educate the children about various medical issues. However, this outreach session was about enjoyment and learning something new.
The outreach session was enjoyed by everyone and Elise said ‘I felt really good after the dance class. It was such an incredible day and a huge success.’
Projects-Abroad give an enormous thank you goes out to ABCrew for their generosity, and also to all those who attended.
