Brazil Gap Year Adventure Trips and Tours

Brazil Gap Year Adventure Trips and Tours

Take a Gap Year in South America and an adventure gap year tour in Brazil, the largest and only Portuguese speaking country in South America. The vast expanse of the Amazon, the wilderness of the Pantanal and over 7000km of coastline mean Brazil boosts some of the richest bio-diversity on the planet. And its cities are no less lively, with music, dance and revelry at the core of the Brazilian way of life.

The Amazon is far and away the world's largest river, with 11 tributaries each larger than the Mississippi River. Brazil's vast wetland, the Pantanal, is home to 300 species of birds, 230 varieties of fish, giant anteaters, and the huge jacare, or Caiman. Brazil is equally famous for Iguacu Falls, some of the biggest and most spectacular waterfalls in the world.

Rio de Janeiro Situated on the South Atlantic coast, Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil and famous for its breathtaking landscape, laid-back beach life and carnival culture. The harbour is surrounded by spectacular geographic features including the rounded hump of Sugar Loaf Mountain at 1,296 feet high, Corcovado Peak topped by the impressive statue of Christ the Redeemer and the rain-forested hills of Tijuca. Collectively, these landmarks make the harbour one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

- Amazon Activities

Ilha Grande Situated about 150 km from Rio de Janeiro, this beautiful Brazilian island is a protected area and off-limits to cars. The only way to get to it is by boat and the handful of coastal villages are connected by over 150 km of hiking trails. Noted for its scenic beauty, with mountain peaks, waterfalls and pristine forests, Ilha Grande is one of the richest ecosystems in the world. It is home to some of the largest remaining populations of many endangered species and boosts one of one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Lopes Mendes.

Iguacu Falls With over 250 separate churning waterfalls, the mighty Iguaçu Falls are higher than Niagara and wider than Victoria. The falls themselves actually stretch for more than one and a half miles, with most of the individual waterfalls reaching about 200 feet in height. The most famous of them all is known as The Devil's Throat, a U-shaped waterfall that is almost 500 feet across and well over 2,000 feet in length. The name Iguaçu comes from a local Indian language and roughly translates as 'Big Water'.
