Take a gap year in South Africa and volunteer with monkeys! Oyster Worldwide are pleased to announce a tempting summer deal on gap year volunteering placements in South Africa working with monkeys and baboons in the world’s largest primate rehabilitation centre.
Oyster is working with a family run primate rehabilitation centre out in the South African bush. It is the largest of its kind, with over 400 monkeys. The centre cares for abandoned and abused monkeys, gradually nurturing them back to health and preparing them for a life in the wild once more.
You can join this centre’s important gap year mission in South Africa, working hands on with both baby and adult monkeys. Cradle them in your arms to feed them, monitor the interaction between the monkeys as they make their journey back towards independence again and help to release the families back to the wild.
August is an exciting time to go, with the release of a baboon family of 24 rehabilitated baboons. You will help to reintroduce them to the wild, watching them every step of the way and ensuring that their adaptation runs smoothly.
You will be living on site in comfortable volunteer accommodation in lush green surroundings. The site boasts a swimming pool and games room, so there is plenty of opportunities for socialising and for chilling out in the evening. Located close to the renowned Kruger national park, amongst other sites of interest, this is a great way to see a bit of South Africa whilst really making a difference on a gap year.
